Here are 7 of the most influential actresses in Nollywood

March 8, of every year is celebrated as international day of the woman and in this vein; NAIJ.com has curated a list of Nollywood actresses who have become very influential.

These women are influential because of the large number of young women who look up to them. This is not to say other actresses aren’t as influential, but the names mentioned in this list are the creme of the crop.

1. Joke Silva

From the 90’s when she started her career till date, Joke Silva has remained an epitome of success as well as goodwill in Nigeria (if not Africa). Anytime her name is mentioned, one can be sure that it is not as a result of any scandal.

2. Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Many people look up to Omotola mainly because of how she manages to balance her stellar career as a thespian while also raising a large family. So far, she is doing a good job.

3. Genevieve Nnaji

Genevieve was one of the first Nigerian actresses to be recognized outside the country and she has maintained that standard ever since. She was even referred to as Nigeria’s Julia Roberts at some point.

The fact that she took a break to raise her kids made many admire her even more. The mum of three also doubles as a director and filmmaker. Something about her doggedness in Nollywood is also admired greatly.

6. Funke Akindele

Who doesn’t love Jenifa? That eponymous character that has become synonymous with Funke Akindele. Her hard work is another reason Funke will always be loved by many.

7. Emem Isong

Many may not know who Emem Isong is but the story of today’s Nollywood cannot be complete without her name being mentioned. Via her Royal Arts Academy, she has been influential in training a sizable number of actors in Nollywood today.
